About Ted Atkinson
The Rev. Theodore Stilwell Atkinson died Saturday, May 15, 2004,
at his home.
He was the husband of Kay Ziegler Atkinson, with whom he shared
28 years of marriage. Ted and Kay had three sons, Andrew T. Atkinson, a teacher at Avon Grove High School, Lieutenant Colonel Philip Z. Atkinson (U.S. Air Force), Lieutenant Colonel Mark B. Atkinson (US Army).
Ted's brother was Major General Clarence Edward Atkinson Jr. His sisters were, Addie Levirt Wilson and Mary Glass.
Born in Wilmington, Del., he was the son of the late Clarence E. and Bessie Burnham Atkinson.
Ted was the pastor of the Oxford Presbyterian Church (PCUSA), Oxford, for 18 years.
He received his bachelor’s degree from Wheaton College, Wheaton, Ill.,
and his B.C. and Th.M degree from Princeton Theological Seminary in Princeton, N.J.
He served churches in Ohio, New York, and Pennsylvania.
Before his illness, he was a member of the Southern Chester
County YMCA Board of Directors and the Oxford Mainstreet Inc. Board of
Directors.
He was also a member of the Pastor/Theologian program of the
Center of Theological Inquiry, Princeton, NJ.
He was active in Oxford Ministerium and coordinated the Annual
CROP Walk for world hunger for many years.
A memorial service was held at 3p.m. on Sunday, May 23, 2004 at the Oxford Presbyterian Church.
